Kate + Claudia: The Rainiest and Most Joyful Wedding Ceremony to date at Malibou Lake Lodge

They say when it rains on your wedding day, it is a sign of good luck to come for your marriage. When the rain began on Kate and Claudia’s wedding day, no one hesitated at being any less present for these beautiful brides to tie the knot.

Kate and Claudia got married during the spontaneous heavy rainfall days of August in 2022 at Malibou Lake Lodge. Malibou Lake Lodge is a wedding and event venue located in the Santa Monica Mountains in Agoura Hills, California. The lodge is situated on the shores of Malibou Lake, which provides a beautiful backdrop for weddings and other special occasions.

The lodge itself is a historic building that was constructed in the 1930s and has been renovated to provide modern amenities while still maintaining its rustic charm. The lodge features a large ballroom with a fireplace, a bridal suite, a groom's room, and an outdoor patio with views of the lake.

Even though the day started bright and sunny without many clouds in the sky, by the afternoon, the clouds had began to sweep in. As the rain turned from a light sprinkle into a heavy downpour, guests embraced the elements while finding their seats! It was originally anticipated to be a hot day, so the bride’s had purchased paper fans that were placed on seats. These paper fans ended up being makeshift umbrellas for those who left their own at home! Kate and Claudia shared their own vows during their ceremony under the umbrella I had kept in the trunk of my car, amongst family and friends on the (slightly damp) lawn of Malibou Lake Lodge. Ever family member and guest smiled as they read their hand written vows to one another. Many guests even tossed their umbrellas aside and joyfully participate in the nature of the day!

All the luck to these two beautiful brides in their years of marriage to come!

TIPS FOR PIVOTING OR PLANNING YOUR WEDDING DAY FOR IF THE FORECAST SAYS RAIN:

Planning an outdoor wedding can be a challenge, especially when you are dealing with unpredictable weather. However, there are several ways to prepare for a rainy wedding day to ensure that you and your guests still have a great time:

  1. Rent a tent: Renting a tent is a great way to protect your guests and your wedding decor from the rain. A tent will keep everyone dry while still allowing you to have an outdoor wedding.

  2. Have a backup indoor location: Even if you're planning an outdoor wedding, it's always a good idea to have a backup indoor location just in case. This could be a nearby venue or a room in your reception venue that can be used in case of rain.

  3. Provide umbrellas: Consider providing umbrellas for your guests, or encouraging them to bring their own. Not only will this keep them dry, but it can also make for some fun photo opportunities.

  4. Adjust your timeline: If it's raining, you may need to adjust your timeline to accommodate for potential delays caused by the weather. Talk to your vendors ahead of time to make sure everyone is on the same page.

  5. Embrace the rain: Finally, try to embrace the rain and make the most of it! Rain can create a romantic and intimate atmosphere, and it's a great opportunity to get some unique and beautiful wedding photos.

Remember, the most important thing is that you're getting married to the person you love. Even if it rains on your wedding day, it will still be a day to remember and cherish for the rest of your life.
